Case study: Perranwell Interior Project

This project focused on creating a versatile family space that felt warm, calm and genuinely supportive of everyday life. The brief was to design a room that worked just as well for adults as it did for young children, offering space to relax, play and spend time together without the room feeling cluttered or chaotic. The atmosphere needed to be cosy and inviting, with a layout that encouraged connection while still feeling organised and easy to live with.

Starting from a blank canvas

The room began as an empty space, which made the design process especially enjoyable. With no existing features to work around, there was freedom to shape the layout, mood and functionality from the very beginning. The clients, a young family with a baby and a toddler, wanted a room that felt calm and comfortable but still practical for daily family life. The challenge was to create something visually refined while keeping it durable, adaptable and simple to maintain.

A cosy, family-friendly interior designed for both adults and children, balancing play, relaxation, and smart organisation in a warm and inviting living space.

The final design strikes a thoughtful balance between playfulness and functionality, creating a space that can be enjoyed by everyone without compromising on comfort, order, or style.

Designing for family life

The design developed around three ideas: comfort, flexibility and gentle organisation. Soft textures and warm tones helped create a sense of ease, while the layout encouraged people to gather naturally. Furniture choices were selected with adaptability in mind so the room could evolve as the children grow. Storage was considered carefully to keep toys accessible but not overwhelming, allowing the space to stay calm even on busy days. The intention was to create a room that felt grown up without being precious, a place where children could play freely and adults could unwind without feeling surrounded by clutter.

A balanced, inviting space

The finished room strikes a thoughtful balance between playfulness and practicality. It feels warm and welcoming, with enough structure to support the family’s routines while still offering moments of softness and comfort. Play items blend naturally into the space rather than dominating it, and the overall atmosphere remains calm and cohesive. The result is a family‑friendly interior that supports both adults and children, offering room to play, space to relax and a sense of order that makes everyday life feel easier.
